Stay Cool Outdoors With A Misting System

On the hottest days in summer many of us are driven indoors to the air conditioning in a bid to beat the heat. The summer months are meant to be enjoyed outside but when the temperature soars it can be downright dangerous to spend too much time in the high temperatures. The chance to enjoy the outdoor life can be returned to everyone with an outdoor misting system.

An outdoor misting system operates by means of a water hose that is connected to the water system. This hose is installed above head height around the area in which you plan to sit or entertain. When the water is turned on a cooling mist is produced that acts in a very similar manner to an air conditioner.

The misting system can be operated by simply turning on the garden tap. With a filtration unit sitting between the water source and the misting nozzles the water pressure generated through the tiny holes in the nozzles creates an extremely fine mist. This mist goes through a process of flash evaporation soon after it leaves the nozzles and this evaporative process creates the cooling effect.

Although it is a water system and the droplets that are emitted from the nozzles are water droplets it should be pointed out that you won’t get wet by the mist. The evaporative process happens so quickly that the result is a dry cooling process. This holds true as long as the misting nozzles are well maintained and there are no blockages or leaks in the system.

The practice of using misting systems is not a new one and has been in operation commercially for quite a few years now. It is quite common to see misting systems used in the food industry to maintain the humidity levels for the most efficient storage of foods. Also, greenhouses make effective use of misting systems. There is a wide application of these systems from cooling to odor suppression and dust management.

On the domestic front the use of misting systems is slowly becoming more widespread. As people realize they can sit out on their patio and enjoy the summer without suffering the heat there will be a greater appreciation of how they can be used.
